Bags for Sale!

I've screen printed 10 canvas bags with the intention to sell them! I am selling them for £10 each (& £1 P&P). I have 4 blue, 4 black, 1 red&black one & 1 double sided one (1 side blue, 1 side black).

Original Picture:

As with an amateur screen printer, some bits are faded and not as bright as others, but I am going to say that it adds character!

Flyers & Website

I finished my degree two weeks ago so after a 2 week break, I am getting round to doing some things again. Find out results in 9 days or something ridiculously soon, yikes.

This flyer has taken ages to make, I have done 4 or 5 completely different rough designs, going as far as to scan and colour them in on photoshop and then hating them. I like this, although the hand written type could have been better, but I was being hounded for the flyer and it is just for the boyfriend's band rather than some high flying magazine who are paying me. ALthough I *think* this may be actually get printed as opposed as just floating about online, which is nice!

Also, finally bought some webspace, check freyaillustration.co.uk although there is nothing there except a coming soon banner (quite pleased with it, clicky the link). Hopefully some sort of website will be in action in the next week or so.

Character sheet

This week I have an illustration in Time Out, it was for an extract from Will Self's new book (The Butt). Will photograph it when I get sent my copy.

Just spent 1.5hours putting this character sheet together (below). I have an "interview" (can you call it that?) or a meeting to show my portfolio at Time Out magazine next week so actually have to get my act together and get my portfolio ready.

9.4.08

Illustrations from project 2, illustrating the story 'a perfect day for bananafish' by j.d. salinger (taken from the book 'nine stories'/'to esme, with love and squalor'). Currently getting it bound into a real book.

Ladyfest

I was asked to make a map of camden/holloway for the printed programme for Ladyfest -a women's arts, music and activism festival (9th-11th may). Since I actually live on the map it was fairly easy and fun to do.

Music Video

WARNING: very very very low res (waiting for a high res copy)

Here is a music video me and 4 of my classmates made (Clara, Ivan, Jin and Claire) back in September 07 as part of a 2 week project at uni (ungraded). Due to a lot of faffing around we made this in 2 (LONG) days just before the deadline and Ivan wrote the music to suit the video in a night! It's nothing ground breaking but I am fond of it.

23.3.08

Last Hours

Illustration for Last Hours zine. The article is about how alternative culture has been commodified into mainstream culture. I think it comes out 14th April, and I recommend getting your hands on a copy.

recent things

firstly, i sold a print at the OFCOM exhibition, which i am well happy about, although after the cost of framing and a third going to charity, I didn't make much profit, but never mind! i have 8 more of the print available (limited edition of 10) so when I get round to making myself a website (post may 6th) they'll be available to buy.

secondly, some spreads/ideas for the book i am currently making.

lino prints. colours are a bit off for some reason.

double page spread

double page spread. i've tried this in a couple of other colours, think this is my favourite.

comments? constructive criticism?

Lots of things to say...

Third year pretty much consumes all my free time with dissertation and projects and also working in a pub on saturdays, so little time to think about this thing. First thing to mention is that I won the Don't Panic competition and the issue my design is on is currently being put together, so I assume it will be out soonish.

This is the poster & postcards that won me joint 1st prize in the illustration catergory in Design4Science, back in June. It is currently part of the design4science exhibition which I believe is now in Manchester and will be going to Stolkholm in the new year. I haven't actually been, but plan to head up north in Dec and fit that in.

This is my illustration published in Last Hours. Apologies for bad photograph, no digital camera so had to make do with my mac cam (See last post for high res version of illustration). The zine is for sale on the website and a few outlets throughout the UK. There are lots of really nice illustrations in there, and interesting articles.

Also, these are a couple of old rough logos/ideas for the band Danse, Armada! Sadly, they are now no more, but I still quite liked these.

My most recent project I completed for uni was called 'How Swearing Works'. I was pretty pleased by my sketch book and the final outcome. I made a 'Swear Box', which included a poster with some silly statements about the nature of swearing, a little book about how swearing actually works and a stressball (made with the help of the wonderful Suzie).
Apologies for the bad photography, I had issues with the digital camera I was borrowing.

That's your lot. I really need a website, i know. Feedback always welcome.

ps- I have been asked by a friend if I would be interested in doing a 3 panel comic strip in a magazine he is currently getting funding for, so we'll see what comes of that.

New Blog

Hello, thought I would make a blog for my illustration work until I get an actual website up & running (who knows when that will be).

I'm starting my 3rd year of BA illustration in a months time so most of my time is being split between finding somewhere to live (the horror) & researching for my dissertation. I have done a couple of things recently though....

This is a flyer I knocked together last night for my boyfriend's band,Danse, Armada!, who are playing their first gig next week (come along, it's the start of something good, promise). Hopefully, when they get round to recording their EP/demo I'll have the chance to do some more work for them.

This is an illustration I've done for a punk/indie zine called Last Hours. It's an illustration for a review. I wish I'd had more time to spend on it, unfortunately house hunting is using up most of my time at the moment. It'll be out to buy on 25th September, hopefully I'll be able to contribute for them in the future too.

This is an illustration I entered for a competition for Don't Panic. Don't Panic (for those who don't know) is a pack of flyers/posters/other things they give out for free at unis/clubs/shops around the uk.
Every month there is a competition to design the pack. I got the most votes, but am yet to hear if I will be published (either the one with the most votes wins, or the top 10 designs are then judged by a pro & the best gets published). If I do, that means 80k packs with my design on, which would be excellent exposure.

-

Oh, I also won joint 1st place for the Design4Science illustration competition back in July, I'll post my entry when I get another spare minute.
